So... What IS Life?
2015-12-08
This last one is going to be a little bit of a read, please bear with me.
I got asked this question by Carmen on CityChat because she read my blogs. It caught me off guard because I had no real answer, that’s why I’m asking too! At the end of this blog though, I will try to answer it with what I’ve learnt throughout this incredible experience.
This post is probably my last one before Show Day! Hope you’ll be watching and cheering for me! You can watch us on TV on Fairchild Channel at 7:55 PM Pacific Time, or you can stream the show via our MCVP 2015 App, or on www.fairchildtv.com.
The long anticipated show day is finally here. I’m feeling a mixture of emotions. I’m kind of nervous, but mostly really excited! Now it’s a totally different story when I actually step on stage…. Hope my public speaking and performing skills don’t fail me when I need them most haha. ALSO I really, really hope I don't cry during the show!!! I told a few girls to slap me if they see me tear up. Me and Cathy have to be separated for sure because when one of us gets emotional, the other one follows suit. Sorry in advance I'll do my best Cathy!
No matter what the outcome of this incredible journey is, this has been such an unforgettable and humbling experience that I will definitely look back on for the rest of my life. It has been such an honour to have worked with the whole Fairchild team, to be taken care of with such attentiveness by Kelly Ma and ShuYi, to be physically transformed to the nines daily by Betty and her assistant Zoe, to have formed so many new friendships with all of our hairstylists and makeup artists (special shoutout to Kenny and Howood, and of course, Daisy; and obviously, my makeup babe, Tracy because she is basically a magician) and most importantly, to have created unbreakable bonds with such incredibly talented, unique and beautiful girls that I’m so lucky to call my friends.
So… what is life?
Life is what you make of it. Life is too short to be afraid of failure, or to feel little, or feel not good enough. If you want something, go for it! If it doesn’t work out, then at least you can say you’ve tried. It’s pretty corny when someone tells you to reach for the stars, but personally going through this experience myself, I can now say it’s pretty decent advice. You never know what you can achieve if you don’t try! That was my mentality when I applied and tried out for this pageant. I wanted to do something wildly different, something out of character, to actually challenge myself and test my potential in unfamiliar areas. And I’m so glad I did. This pageant either could have created a lot of room for self-doubt and insecurities, or it could’ve done the opposite. Luckily, it was the latter for me. I feel the most confident, fit and healthy I’ve ever been, and am very proud of myself for being able to prove that I simply am capable.
I realized life is also too short to care about other people’s opinions, which is a pretty ironic realization while competing in a beauty pageant, where you're pegged against 9 other extremely qualified girls, but it’s too true. As I previously mentioned in my earlier blogs, there’s no way of comparing us 10 girls. Each one of us has unique and amazing qualities that make it impossible to compare and rate. You can only do your personal best out there. I think this is applicable to life in general, so no matter what happens, I’m going to carry this attitude and mentality with me on whatever adventure I embark on next.
I hope reading my blogs have been able to provide some sort of inspiration for you. I guess these will be my parting words on this blog as this years Miss Chinese Vancouver Contestant #2. SO much love to my family, and my relatives in Hong Kong and Toronto, my best friends all over the world, and especially those that will be coming to the show on Wednesday night. See you on stage <3
No more next time, until show day!
XOXO
