Hello everyone!

2015-10-01

Hi guys :)

Thanks for visiting my first blog post! I'm #2, Lettitia Lai. And in case you are wondering, my name is pronounced Le-teesh-ah. My parents named me this because it's a latin name meaning joy and healthiness. I was born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver. I went to York House School and graduated from McGill University in 2014. Since then, I've been back in Vancouver and have been working.

I can't believe I'm one of the 10 contestants in this years Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant. When I got the call I was in disbelief. I didn't know who to call because my parents at the time were away on vacation so I called my sister and we freaked out together. By the way, I have a (not-so) little sister who is 3 years younger than me, and she is my best friend, my everything and confidante :)

As you can see from the picture above, I love being in the sun :P I embrace the heat and I love activities that make me sweat loads! Summer time is obviously my favourite season. Don't worry, I'm not this tanned anymore ;)

I must be honest, I never thought about joining a pageant before. I always wondered what it would be like to be one of the girls, but never ever expected I would give it a try, and to actually get it! I haven't even watched any of the Hong Kong or Vancouver pageant shows in the last 5-6 years. This is because the annual event usually falls during exam time while I'm away in Montreal at McGill. I can't explain to you exactly why I decided to try out for this years pageant, but I'm really glad I did because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it is something completely out of my comfort zone. How I looked at it was that I would regret this if I didn't give it a try, and that I wanted to add an exciting new chapter in my life. I've graduated from university, and I've had some work experience. Now I want something that I can teach my future kids about, about how to take a step back to look at life and how to really embrace every moment.

Me at my audition.

Being in the public eye is a very vulnerable thing, and everyone has insecurities. I believe this expereince will challenge my character, but ultimately make me a better and stronger person regardless of the outcome. My heart going into this competition is to do my very best (the hardest part so far has been the dieting. I LOVE FOOD ESPECIALLY FRIED CHICKEN AND CHIPS), have SO much fun, and leave the competition with 9 other girl friends. On that note, I feel very lucky that the 9 other girls are so kind and friendly, and we all get along great. This is a competition, but it doesn't feel like it. To me, we are going through the motions together, we're being challenged together and conditioned together.

I hope you'll be following me on this journey through my blogs and social media!

Until next time

XOXO
