Friday the 13th
Today is Friday the 13th. Although I generally think this day is a lucky day (my little sister was born on a Friday the 13th), the events around the world that happened today weren't so great. My heart goes out to Paris, all the lives that were innocently lost and all their loved ones. This terrorist attack is such an unfortunate, and unecessary thing that shouldn't have happened. It's 2015! Lately it feels like society is aging backwards. Can someone please get this situation under control once and for all?!
Today, the girls and I paid a visit to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Elderly Home to give our gifts to the elderly. We bought them warm and cozy socks (because 親親蜜蜜) (for those of you who can't read chinese, if you say it out loud, it basically sounds like "sweet and close" so you give socks to those you love because it's sweet and represents that you guys are close) and we made them a framed picture with 100 cranes that we each folded!
After our visit to the elderly home, we went to Women's Hospital to take a tour in their NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit), where the proceeds of this event will go towards. I'm very grateful for this tour because it put into greater perspective why this pageant is actually more than just a beauty pageant. We are putting on a spectacle that will raise money for something meaningful. The proceeds from our pageant event will go towards purchasing a multipurpose ultrasound that can help save lives before they leave their mommy's bellies.
I couldn't complete the tour because I just got too emotional after I caught a glimpse of this tiny, tiny baby in an incubator with a mask over their face. I decided I had to leave the tour early because I felt disrespectful for being SO emotional in front of new parents visiting their little precious babies in incubators.
I wish I didn't get so sad, but I just empathized with all the new parents in the NICU. I can't imagine how anyone in their position must feel. I felt even more emotional because it exposed a little bit of what my parents went through as well, 23 years ago. Right after I was born, I was rushed into sugery for a condition called hydronephrosis. My parents remind me every day of how much they love me and how important my health is to them, and now I feel like I have a deepened understanding of their love and protectiveness.
That is all for my post today. Feels like a weird ending.. but I have to say that tomorrow is our public press conference at Aberdeen Centre! Hope to see some familiar faces in the audience tomorrow. Gonna go work out now then sleep early. Fridays, amirite??
Until next time,
